I’ve been doing some soul searching lately, for a variety of reasons. Why did I create this site? What is my purpose in continuing to develop it? What are my goals?

I’m looking back to my original ideas. I say in my about page that I want to "help others navigate the journey." The process to get into medical school is crazy and I figure I can offer some advice as I go through it.

One of those reasons contributing to the soul searching was reading articles about the shortage of primary care physicians like this one. This is just one of the many contributing factors to our country’s health care problems. Every day in the ER I see people who either do not have a primary care doctor or could not stand waiting 3-4 weeks to be seen. Thus they come to the Emergency Room, where everything is more expensive.

This has lead me to realize a more profound purpose for this site: to help more people become physicians. That’s ultimately the point of helping people navigate the Pre Med Journey right? And not only do I want to encourage students in their journey to become doctors, but I want to encourage the pursuit of medicine for the right reasons. Maybe that’s a little lofty, but back a few years ago I thought becoming a doctor was a lofty goal and I’m getting closer every day.

Here are some specific goals I have for the site:

Provide useful advice for Pre Med students as they take classes, volunteer, study for the MCAT, and navigate the application process

Share stories from my ER experience that encourage interest in medicine

Be a resource for relevant health care news for Pre Med students

Encourage students to learn more about Osteopathic medicine

Explore other health care career options such as Physician Assistants

Interview physicians and medical school students for their perspective on the process

Any other suggestions for the site?
